The reasons for the crying baby
Sometimes it’s easy to understand why the baby is crying, there are lots of reasons why babies cry. It’s their only means of communicating something is wrong so if something is amiss it’s what they do. 
Hunger, thirst, and discomfort are big ones but don’t forget there’s a lot more going on a baby’s life that can make them upset. Teething, for example, is a really painful experience. Hard lumps of enamel push their way through the gums to the surface and the experience is genuinely painful. It occurs sporadically throughout a baby’s life and quite naturally causes them to cry.
Colds, sore throats, coughs etc are not only upsetting for a baby they’re scary. They don’t understand what’s going on and why bits of their body hurt. 
Even the change to solids causes problems. When they exist entirely on a liquid diet it comes out their little bums as liquid and is easy to pass. The change to solid food causes a much more solid experience at the other end which is painful to work through and deliver. For some inexplicable reason my son went through a phase where he decided to consolidate all his daily poo into one weekly pool which appeared in his nappy after much pain and suffering. I think I’d cry too if once a week something the size of my entire arm was working its way slowly out of my arse.
